The last 6 weeks have been extremely busy. My new role as Kids Ministry Director at People’s Church has been challenging and exciting. Last Wednesday we launched an entire new ministry called Wednesday Connection. This past Sunday we had 75 people express an interest in serving in Kids Ministry. The church and ministry is growing at a rapid rate and we are positioning ourselves for even more growth.
It is easy for me to get consumed by my work, especially since I love what I do and know there is so much to be done. Although, if I’m not careful I can get so consumed with my work that I start letting other more important things drift. Things like my family time, health, & personal devotions.
Over a series of posts I want to share my thoughts on staying sane when things are crazy. I’ll start with some things I do to make sure I stay spiritually healthy.
1. Get up early to do my devotions. I find it best, especially during busy seasons, to get up and spend time with God before the demands of life come pressing in.
2. Take a break. For example, today I took part of my lunch hour and went for a walk outside in the parking lot and spent some time in prayer and solitude.
3. Honor the Sabbath. Take a least one day a week and STOP WORKING.
4. Visit Other Churches. From time to time I find it refreshing to go to another church. Being in ministry it is good to go to church and just “go to church”. Not having to worry about getting things done and just focus on Worshipping and being ministered to.
In a future post I’ll talk about family. I would love to hear your suggestions on this topic. What are some things that you do to keep yourself spiritually healthy?
