Are you following Jesus intentionally?
Here’s the problem—We are all being formed, but mostly unintentionally by the culture around us. Maybe some of us have a plan, but it’s often limited to a quiet time, going to church, and joining a group. While these activities are VERY IMPORTANT, it’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to experiencing a life with Jesus. It’s about consistently practicing spiritual disciplines in every sphere of life to create space for us to become more like Jesus.
I have some exciting news! I’ve been working hard to create something that’s been on my heart for the past 3 years. It’s called Transformed Rhythms, and it’s all about helping people, couples, and groups in their spiritual formation.
What exactly is spiritual formation? Well, I’m glad you asked. My favorite definition is by author and Professor Robert Mulholland: “The process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others.”
About 5 years ago, my wife Mandy and I discovered the ministries Emotionally Healthy Discipleship and Practicing the Way that introduced us to practices like Sabbath, contemplative prayer (silent prayer), and Lectio Divina (a particular way of reading scripture). This has been transformational for our family. I’ve learned the value of taking these practices and others and creating a type of spiritual growth framework called a Rule of Life, or as I like to call it, “Rhythms for Life”.
Maybe this all sounds foreign to you or maybe you’ve heard some of these terms before. While these practices are rooted in Scripture and our Christian heritage, they are often not talked about in most contemporary churches. I’ve been a pastor and student of theology for over two decades and only more recently gained clarity on spiritual formation myself.
I’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks on my personal journey along with the biblical and historical aspects of spiritual formation. In the meantime, if you have questions or you’ve been longing for more in your spiritual walk, please feel free to email me or you can set up a phone call by clicking here.
By the way, I created a little worksheet to help you start being more intentional about your practices and routines called a Rhythms Reset Worksheet. If you want to check it out, click here.
